Support my challenge to care for young Western Australians

Every school day across Western Australia, 250,000 students walk into a school where someone knows their name. In 2025, YouthCARE chaplains and volunteers showed up in 600 school communities and 38 sporting clubs across the state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern.

They sat with students navigating hard things, served nearly 700,000 meals through Breakfast Club, delivered 30,760 wellbeing sessions, and supported more than 10,000 athletes and their families on the sidelines.

260,000 people. One consistent presence. Ridiculously good care.

I am thinking the first song I am going to learn (and practice) reflects the theme of YouthCARE's focus. 

Being there for the hurting, the unseen and the broken hearted. 

This is an old, pretty obscure song by Andrew Smith (Remnent Records) from the album Salvation Singing.

Ridiculously Good Guitar

Friday 24th Apr
I have played guitar for decades, and through the month of May I’m committing to get ridiculously better at playing by practicing for 28 minutes a day, over the 31 days of May.
The 28 represents the number of chaplains in the City South Metro Region, and 31 represents my current number of schools.

If I meet my target, I commit to writing a song about chaplaincy that I will record and share with you all. 

A secondary commitment, is if you should prefer that I do not write the song, if my target is doubled, the song will never see the light of day.
