Support my challenge to care for young Western Australians

Every school day across Western Australia, 250,000 students walk into a school where someone knows their name. In 2025, YouthCARE chaplains and volunteers showed up in 600 school communities and 38 sporting clubs across the state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern.

They sat with students navigating hard things, served nearly 700,000 meals through Breakfast Club, delivered 30,760 wellbeing sessions, and supported more than 10,000 athletes and their families on the sidelines.

260,000 people. One consistent presence. Ridiculously good care.

Your support helps provide ridiculously good care to young Western Australians.

250,000 Steps for 250,000 Students: Walking with Max for Ridiculously Good Care

Every school day across WA, around 250,000 students walk into a school where someone knows their name. To mark that number, my challenge is to walk 250,000 steps around my local area with my dog, Max — the middle dog in the photo.

YouthCARE chaplains and volunteers are showing up in school communities, sporting clubs, Breakfast Clubs, wellbeing sessions, and everyday conversations across the state. Their care is practical, consistent, and, honestly, ridiculously good.

To make things a little more personal: for every $500 donated, I will send a thank you video featuring my own ridiculously good skill — playing the violin.

Every donation helps YouthCARE continue supporting young people, families, schools, and communities across Western Australia.

Day 11 - Another Cool Leaf Pattern

This was such another cool leaf pattern on this tree. I even had to duck underneath to continue along the footpath! And what is Max and his shadow looking at?

Day 11 - Just When You Couldn't Get Enough of the Sea and Sky...

Sunday 24th May
Well, there's a lot of green, one footpath and some light poles to give the sea and sky a "nice touch"!

Day 11 - Interesting Feature 2: Leave Pattern on Trees

Sunday 24th May
The leaves on these trees were so interesting! A single line of a leaf drooping down and lots of these for these trees. So cool!

Day 11 - Even More Sea and Sky

Sunday 24th May
Well, at least there is a road and a bus stop included with the sea and the sky...

Day 11 - Take That, Tall Bushes!

Sunday 24th May
Now that there is daylight, these tall bushes don't scare me... or do they still...???

Day 11 - More Sea and Sky

Sunday 24th May
Another view of the sea and sky... can you see a glimpse of a big ship?

Day 11 - The Sea, The Sky, The Sea, The Sky, The Sea, The Sky...

Sunday 24th May
This was a beautiful day to go and walk Max. It is vastly different day walking is to night walking, because I can truly appreciate the view of the sea and the sky...

Day 11 - Interesting Feature: A Crate????

Sunday 24th May
This really just made me smile in disbelief at the weirdest thing only an Aussie can pull off. Why is a crate even there???

Day 10 - Cleaning Day

Sunday 24th May
Mum arrived back home from her work trip at lunch time and immediately had 2 clients to clean. After this, I was pretty much dead to even consider walking Max. Take the extra day off, Max!

Day 9 - Admin Work

Sunday 24th May
I decided to give Thursday a break to catch up on some admin work that needed to be sorted out before this Sunday, and managed to secure a good session catching up with my friend I haven't been able to talk to and hang out for a long while! Max, I'm sure you can handle a break and take this as a time to recover!

Day 8 - Stats (2 of 2)

Friday 22nd May
Not too bad, although I am short by 66,570 steps. I'll try to do a big walk with Max on Saturday along the beach to catch up!!!!

Day 8 - Stats (1 of 2)

Friday 22nd May
I must say, it wasn't bad running with Cindy, the step count was pretty decent. Will try a longer route with her next time and pace myself at a jog instead. Good job Cindy!

Day 8 - Interesting Feature: The Spooky Woods

Friday 22nd May
Oh my, I seem to have stumbled into the woods! Oh, whatever shall I do? *puts hand on head dramatically* Wait... what is a bus stop doing here in the middle of nowhere???! And what is Cindy looking at? Nooooo!!! Don't go there, Cindy!!!! >//<

Day 8 - Pose 2: Slow Down Cindy!!!

Friday 22nd May
Oh my goodness, Cindy was just hankering to go for a run with the constant pulling and unexpected bursts of lunging forward, so I gave in and started running with her. At some point, I just needed a break and ended up hugging her to catch my breath. Even at this point, she is just sooooo happy!

Day 8 - Pose: What a Happy Dog!

Friday 22nd May
Just couldn't resist taking this photo of Cindy. I mean, look at her, she is so happy and very photogenic and well behaved in this photo!!! >//<

Day 8 - What The!? MAX IMPOSTER!!!

Friday 22nd May
For some reason, a brown dog just happened to have a leash attached and ready to go for a walk??? Well, at least they're raring to go and such a well behaved dog sitting and patiently waiting at the door for a good walk!

Day 7 - Stats (2 of 2)

Wednesday 20th May
So for the 31 minute walk, I only made 3,290 steps (epic sads), but will just have to grin and bear the huge walking commitment for this Saturday... My feet are gonna ache afterwards... ;~;

Day 7 - Stats (1 of 2)

Wednesday 20th May
So although this was just a normal walk to prioritise Max in doing a lot of his "business", it was also aimed at making sure I don't wreck my precious sleeping time. 31 minutes is just about right to get "the deed" done. I'll just have to do a big catchup this Saturday by venturing to the scenic route along the beach. 60k step count variance is a crazy number to catch up!!! >//<

Day 7 - Another Pre-Business Sniff

Wednesday 20th May
This was captured because it took 6 minutes for this stupid dog to make up his mind in doing "business" or not. He ended up chewing the leaves on the bush and then nonchalantly resumed walking. Cannot deal with this dog mate lol

Day 7 - Business 1 - 3 of Many

Wednesday 20th May
[insert bursting fits of rage here]

Day 7 - Business 1 - 2 of Many

Wednesday 20th May
[insert bouts of annoyance and need for urgency here]

Day 7 - The Pre-Business Sniff

Wednesday 20th May
This was just one "pre-business sniff" of many... smh

Day 7 - Business 1 - 1 of Many... [insert face palm here]

Wednesday 20th May
Like I said, my walks with Max is meant for him to do a lot of his "business"... This is just one of many that he did and seriously, there are times where he is the quickest ninja where doing business 1 and the time to return to walking is such a smooth transition that you didn't realise he actually did his business and then you just feel the tug of the leash because he wants to do his "pre-business sniffing" as if he needs to mentally prepare himself before doing "the deed"...

Day 7 - Interesting Feature - Spooky Silhouette

Wednesday 20th May
Managed to capture such a spooky silhouette of Max and I! It is also crazy how crisp the silhouettes are in this photo!!! >//<

Day 7 - Finally, The Night Has Come to Do Some Walking!!! But Seriously, Where Is Max???

Wednesday 20th May
Let me just rant to you the actual need to walk Max. Under normal circumstances, I don't walk long distances with Max. I do the walking time to get Max to DO his "business" and to do a lot of it!!! Every time I go outside to the backyard, I sigh a big sigh and proceed to do the huge "poop cleanup" (mind you, this process is done once in a blue moon when the parents have had enough of the mess outside). This is why going for a walk is the best opportunity for Max to just let his "business" go!!! But seriously, how does Max have the "huge-est yellow river" stored in his bladder???! Like come on, you don't need to pee at almost every other bush and "pole-like" structure you come across! In the case of the attached photo, can you even see Max do his business???

Day 6 - Surely We Can Rest Easy Knowing Some Walking Happened... Right???

Wednesday 20th May
With Mum having left Perth and leaving my Dad, Sister and I to "fend for ourselves", the house definitely needed some sorting out! That meant a big chunk of my time was spent sanitising and cleaning the house. A huge shoutout to Dad for doing the dishes! I don't think I could have lasted another hour to clean the kitchen and the dishes! A tired man just "had" to get some shut eye!!! Seriously Max, I totally promise to walk you another night!!!

Day 5 - Did Any Walking Happen???

Wednesday 20th May
Unfortunately, my parents could no longer wait for me to get the laundry sorted, folded and put away as I had left it accumulating for over 2 weeks! In this photo, this was one basket out of 3 that needed sorting and folding. It was critical as Mum was preparing to pack for her work trip over east, so no better time to get the laundry done! As this chore took quite a chunk into the night to get done, I was too tired to walk Max. We'll walk next time, Max, I promise!!! >//<

Day 4 - Stats

Sunday 17th May
As shown in the top graph, the green is the goal of 250,000 steps, the light blue is the cumulative step count of 27,965 over 4 days and the dark blue is the step count made for the day. Given that I missed days 2 and 3, I need to make an additional 24,667 steps to have reached the minimum 52,632 steps over 4 days (since the daily step count goal is 13,158 for each day).

Day 4 - Results

Sunday 17th May
Man, such an awesome achievement to have travelled 12.8km for a whopping 18,128 steps!!!! Not bad I say, not bad... I must say, I was frustrated at not turning on the tracker to visually see where I walked though... ;~;

Day 4 - Something Doesn't Look Right...

Sunday 17th May
Is it just me or did I see something red and pungent along the path... and what is that "white thing"...?

Day 4 - Interesting Feature - Spooky!

Sunday 17th May
As I was walking, I did not like the path that had bushes being "awfully" tall and making the pathway "cramped", and hardly many light poles to brighten the path... talk about scary!!! Just in this photo, thank goodness there was "one" light pole to guide my way along!
#blairwitchproject
#spookypookums

Day 4 - Pose

Sunday 17th May
As always, to mark an important occasion, I just "had" to make a pose! Choco (small dog) was being "too" comfortable on my lap as I held him and Max just sitting very "regal" and "posh" at the camera! Is that a Macca's iced coffee I see???!!!

Day 4 - A 'Little' Surprise!

Sunday 17th May
FINALLY! It was time to go for a walk! As I was about to put the leash on Max, some "stupidly excited small" dog appeared, frantically begging me to walk him. With such cute puppy dog eyes and a random flick of his tongue, I just couldn't say no!!!

Day 3 - Surely Some Walking Took Place?!

Sunday 17th May
Unfortunately, due to an awesome drama production starring my awesomely epic sister, our Family went out to support her and her Drama crew in watching a tale on the Brothers' Grimm actual stories. There was crowd participation, booing, screaming, cries of frustration and HEAPS of laughter!

Day 2 - Did Anything Happen???

Sunday 17th May
Unfortunately, due to some hard effort in getting Payroll done for the week, I ended up being so knackered I went straight to bed ;~; Interesting fact, it seemed our whole Finance Team was also feeling the pinch of tiredness on this particular day, such a coincidence that I was not the only one tired!!! If this week was pay week for you, HAPPY PAY WEEK!!! If not, hopefully it's next week!

Day 1 of 19 - Tithing

Thursday 14th May
As Day 1 comes to a close, I have decided to give one month’s worth of coffee towards the Ridiculously Good campaign, although I can always tap into my rewards points for a free coffee whenever I do a Macca’s run!!!

Day 1 of 19 - Stats

Thursday 14th May
There is always one thing that people want to see. Stats, stats, stats!!! See the first data entry compared to our target goal in green. Still got a long way to go, but I know Max and I can do this!

Day 1 of 19 - Results

Thursday 14th May
Although I didn't reach my daily step count target of 13,158 steps to achieve a total of 250,000 over 19 days, I still think this was such a great achievement!!! Looking forward to the next walk with Max! Good boy for keeping up with me, Max!!!

Day 1 of 19 - Interesting Feature

Thursday 14th May
The one thing that piqued my curiosity during my walk was the light peeping through the group of trees at the roundabout. Talk about a fascinating sight!

Day 1 of 19 - Pose

Thursday 14th May
What can I say? You have just got to get a good pose to mark a momentous occasion!!! I just can't believe the poop bag didn't stay in the bin and made its way to photobomb our shot!!!

Day 1 of 19 - Trip

Thursday 14th May
It has been years since Max has been walked and his reaction to go for a walk melted my heart! He was wagging his tail, panting excitedly and couldn't wait to get started! The first thing he did? BUSINESS 1 and BUSINESS 2!!! As you can see in the attached photo, he is already trying to sniff where he can "mark his territory" just after doing BUSINESS 2!!!
