Support my challenge to care for young Western Australians

Every school day across Western Australia, 250,000 students walk into a school where someone knows their name. In 2025, YouthCARE chaplains and volunteers showed up in 600 school communities and 38 sporting clubs across the state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern.

They sat with students navigating hard things, served nearly 700,000 meals through Breakfast Club, delivered 30,760 wellbeing sessions, and supported more than 10,000 athletes and their families on the sidelines.

260,000 people. One consistent presence. Ridiculously good care.

Your support helps provide ridiculously good care to young Western Australians.

Take Steps to Support School Chaplaincy

Those of you who know me well know that I love a bit of play on words. So I am going to ask you to help me take steps to support YouthCARE school chaplains, both literally and figuratively.

My ridiculously good challenge is to do at least 600 stairs per day across the month of May, to represent the 600 schools positively impacted by school chaplains from YouthCARE.

Help me 'raise funds' and take your support to the 'next level', by donating to this valuable cause.

I'll be taking on a different landmark each day as I do battle with the stairmaster.
Starting with the Christ the Redeemer monument in Rio de Janeiro of course, it's the only way to begin!

I'll post a picture of the landmarks I tackle each day so that you can follow on with me. And if you're so 'inclined', you might like to take up a steps challenge yourself!

Please show your support for the important work our chaplains do and help our students continue to receive the help they need, by sponsoring me in this challenge. Even a small amount can make a big difference!

Much love,
Claire x

Day 23: 600 stairs

Saturday 23rd May
Today I took Mum out for a belated Mother's Day High Tea, so was careful to make sure I did my stairs at her place afterwards. 40 sets of 15 up and 40 down. But I'll call it 600 as I usually only do the up ones!

Day 22: 1618 steps

Friday 22nd May
Today was Taipei 101. 1618 stairs!

Day 21: 1240 steps

Friday 22nd May
I managed St Basil's Cathedral, The Tower of Pisa and the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Day 19-20: 2909 steps

Friday 22nd May
I climbed Burj Khalifa, almost 3000 steps!

Day 15-18: 2170 steps

Friday 22nd May
Over the last few days I climbed the Petronas Twin Towers. Had to break this one up as it was a thigh buster for sure!

Day 12-14:1860 steps

Friday 15th May
So I was struggling a bit with time this week, and decided to do the Empire State building again across a few days. Must be hitting that motivation low that comes at the halfway point! Will keep pressing on..

Day 11: 1860 steps

Tuesday 12th May
Today I climbed the Empire State building. 1860 stairs in one go -the most I have done in a day since starting this challenge!

Day 10: 674 steps

Sunday 10th May
Today being Mother's Day, I took on the stairs at my mum's house to do the Eiffel Tower again.

Day 9: 712 Steps

Sunday 10th May
Today I climbed the Torre de Collserola in Spain, which I have renamed the "terror of the casserole". After a big buffet lunch for a family celebration, the steps were hard fought today!

Day 7 & 8: 1306 steps

Friday 8th May
Yesterday and today I climbed Montparnasse Tower in Paris.

Day 6: 1049 steps

Wednesday 6th May
Today I climbed St Peters Cathedral and Torre degli Asinelli.

Over 1000 steps this time!

Day 5: 862 steps

Tuesday 5th May
Today I traversed Big Ben in London and Duomo in Florence.

Brought back a few memories of my last time at Big Ben as a 22 year old. Far less romantic this time around, and far more sweat and tears!

Day 4: 674 steps

Monday 4th May
Today I climbed the Eiffel Tower. Ok, so it wasn't as exciting as the last time, when I got to ice skate up the top (yes, in winter that's actually a thing!), but I managed the steps in record time!

Day 3:737 steps

Sunday 3rd May
Today I took to the stairs at Whitfords Nodes Park, and climbed 737 stairs to represent The Statue of Liberty and Sagrada Familia.

Had to climb down the same amount today, so it was more challenging than the Stairmaster, but well worth it for the view from the top!

Day 2: 929 steps

Saturday 2nd May
Today I climbed the stairs at the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Prague Cathedral and St Stephens Cathedral.

I thought Day 2 would be easier, but unfortunately my knees have a good memory of yesterday's efforts!

Day 1: 696 Steps

Friday 1st May
Today I climbed up to the Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro, traversed Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, and enjoyed Duomo Cathedral in Milan.

696 stairs climbed
52 calories burned (15 m&ms or 1 square of dark chocolate)

Unfortunately the delectable gelato that Italy is famous for was severely lacking...perhaps by the end of the month I will have burned enough to earn one!
