Support my challenge to care for young Western Australians

Every school day across Western Australia, 250,000 students walk into a school where someone knows their name. In 2025, YouthCARE chaplains and volunteers showed up in 600 school communities and 38 sporting clubs across the state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern.

They sat with students navigating hard things, served nearly 700,000 meals through Breakfast Club, delivered 30,760 wellbeing sessions, and supported more than 10,000 athletes and their families on the sidelines.

260,000 people. One consistent presence. Ridiculously good care.

a Knitted Side quest... Meet Captain James T B'Kirk

Sunday 24th May
So for 10 hours of this month, I have been knitting a secret project (unless you are one of my students). Having a a plush toy to cuddle is one of the most grounding things my students enjoy. 
I have been busily working on this and the Sweater I promised my hubby.

Getting the party started!

Tuesday 5th May
On Friday I started my challenge at my local cafe with my knitting group. We meet every Friday to knit and chat. Knitting is self care and knitting with Friends is community. These friends are my biggest encouragers and supporters of the work I do.

What I am Committing to

Tuesday 28th Apr
I love to knit! 
In the Month of May I am Committing to knitting for 35 hours.  This is 1 hour for every 10 students in my school. 
For this challenge I will knitting a Woolen Jumper, as it represents the need for basics in the lives of many of the students I work with.
