Support my challenge to care for young Western Australians

Every school day across Western Australia, 250,000 students walk into a school where someone knows their name. In 2025, YouthCARE chaplains and volunteers showed up in 600 school communities and 38 sporting clubs across the state, from the Kimberley to the Great Southern.

They sat with students navigating hard things, served nearly 700,000 meals through Breakfast Club, delivered 30,760 wellbeing sessions, and supported more than 10,000 athletes and their families on the sidelines.

260,000 people. One consistent presence. Ridiculously good care.

Your support helps provide ridiculously good care to young Western Australians.

We're so close now!

Kept the momentum going with 21 minutes each day. Another 63 minutes to the tally!

Only 217 minutes left to achieve this month!

Day 14 - 2 ice baths with special guests!

Tuesday 19th May
Today I was in the ice bath twice! First with the amazing Hon. Rob Horstman MLC for 37 minutes, and then with the incredible Youth Alive Academy for an additional 18 minutes. 280 minutes left to go!

Target increased!

Thursday 14th May
Amazing community! Today we hit the $6,380 target 🎯 Thank you so much! I've increased the target to $10,000 to see if we can do even more to support our WA kids!

Day 13 - ridiculously good people

Thursday 14th May
21 minutes in an ice bath is a lot more manageable when you’re surrounded by ridiculously good people. Today that meant 21 minutes alongside some dear friends and exceptional leaders: David Kilpatrick, Fiona Payne FAICD, and Phebe Cho (we felt your absence Stuart Beattie GAICD FCISI, Geoff Pritchard and Joseph Geha!). At YouthCARE Australia, everything we do is centred around community. The care we provide to young people across Western Australia only happens because people show up for one another with generosity, encouragement and compassion. I’m incredibly grateful for the community of friends and leaders around me who continue to challenge, support and inspire me. 335 minutes left to go...

Day 10, 11 & 12

Thursday 14th May
Three consistent days in the ice - 32 minutes, 25 minutes and 27 minutes. That brings my minutes still to achieve to 356! On the 12th my hubby joined me for the first time this month and I loved getting to share the craziness and joy of getting to do this challenge in support of the incredible work that our chaplains and volunteers do.

Day 8 - with special guests from WA state parliament

Saturday 9th May
Today was lots of fun as I had some special guests join me from WA state parliament - The Hon. Michelle Boylan MLC, Liam Staltari MLA (shadow eduction minister) & The Hon. Phil Twiss MLC. We also had the wonderful Jason Schroeder (YouthCARE Board member and Senior Pastor at C3 Hepburn Heights)! The competitive spirit came out in full force and we managed 30 minutes in the icy cold water! If you'd like to watch today in action, here's a link to a quick video https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYFC2uQPp3b/?igsh=MXU2ZWZtMnlnczk0eA== Only (eek!) 440 minutes to go to reach my challenge target!

Day 7

Saturday 9th May
Today was a quiet day in the ice bath - left it until too late so did my 21 minutes and went straight to bed! Note to self .... long ice baths are pretty hard on the cold autumn evening πŸ₯Ά In other news, our ridiculously good merch arrived!

Day 6 - A new record

Wednesday 6th May
40 minutes in the ice bath βœ…Β

It's day 6 of @youthcareaustralia's "Ridiculously Good" fundraising campaign and another day into my ice bath challenge.Β

40 minutes today (eek!), which means I've still got 491 minutes to achieve of my 638 minute target!

Are you keen to join me for an ice bath challenge? Send me an email on tamsyn.cullingford@youthcare.org.au

Day 4 - 32 minutes

Monday 4th May
Day 4 of 31 and broke my personal record today - 32 minutes!!! That's Ridiculously Good! It was pretty rough in the dark and cold and I didn't want to do it, but got my head in game for this important cause. 107 minutes done βœ… and only 531 left to do this month!

Day 3

Sunday 3rd May
Day 3 βœ… 23 minutes at 3 degrees at home. A little easier than yesterday but I'm still warming up two hours later πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά. If you'd like to watch a 90 second recap, here's a link -Β https://www.instagram.com/reel/DX32JrfPpTT/?igsh=NmUxc2xvdWNxcXgw

Day 2

Sunday 3rd May
Day 2 was a little harder in my cold plunge tub at home but I got it done! 21 minutes at 3 degrees! Only 586 minutes to go πŸ™ŒπŸ»

I'll be challenging myself to 638 minutes in an ice bath

Tuesday 21st Apr

Across the month of May, I’m challenging myself to spend 638 minutes in an ice bath.

That’s one minute for every school and sporting community YouthCARE supports across Western Australia.

Most mornings, I spend a couple of minutes in the cold. It’s just part of my routine now. It helps me slow down and start the day a bit more clear-headed.

So this month, I’m stretching that.

Longer, more often, and beyond what I would usually do. It’s about staying, steadying my breathing, and not rushing out the moment it gets uncomfortable.

And that’s why this really matters to me.

Because so many of the young people we support are doing that every day, in ways that are far harder than an ice bath.

Across WA, young people are carrying a lot. Anxiety, pressure, loneliness, uncertainty about what’s ahead. Most of the time, it’s not obvious and they just keep going.

But with the right support, their stories can look different.

There can be a sense of hope.
A reminder that they’re not on their own.
A reminder that they matter.

And often, what makes that difference is simply having someone there with them -someone who notices, someone who listens, someone who doesn’t rush off when things get hard.

That’s what YouthCARE does.

Every day, in schools and communities, there are chaplains and volunteers quietly showing up for our young people and their families.

It’s the kind of care we’re proud to call ridiculously good.

And this challenge is my way of putting a spotlight on that, and helping more young people access that kind of support.

If you’d like to be part of it, I’d really value your support.

You can give whatever you’re able, follow along, or stand with me in supporting young people across WA.

Together, we can make a difference.

Day 1 - Cold hands, warm heart!

Tuesday 21st Apr
Today, some of the YouthCARE Head Office Team joined me at Melt Saunas in Subiaco to do an ice bath challenge and give me some (much needed) moral support to try and acheive 21 minutes in the ice bath for the first time ever.

Everyone did incredibly well and it made it SO much easier for me to have all the laughing, singing (Eden!) and group shivering! (...and a bit of competition helped too)

Pleased to say that I managed 31 minutes in the ice bath today... only 607 minutes still to acheive in May!

HUGE shoutout to Melt in Subiaco for partnering with me and making us all feel so welcome!Β

Thanks for all your support!
